Bodegas Borsao

Origins of Bodegas Borsao
Our origins date back to 1958, the year in which he bought the winery from a private individual and the Borja cooperative and the original brand from Borsao were founded, in 1981 is when the first bottles were marketed and in 1991 the first exports were made. Some years later, the cooperatives of Pozuelo and Tabuenca joined the one of Borja contributing their human resources and most importantly, their vineyards. This union took place in 2001 by establishing a new society called Bodegas Borsao SA The 620 members of the cooperatives and the management team promoted the foundation of the new winery: starting to set the guidelines for the care of vineyards, grape harvest and reception and continuing with a renovation of the winery’s facilities. The technological capacity, the modernity of the facilities, the great potential of the vineyards and a meticulous sensitivity for the work well done, make up the basic pillars of the winery, consolidating the brand BORSAO as the maximum exponent in quality wines of our denomination of Origin Campo de Borja.

History Borsao brand mitica

The first writings on oenology in our region date from 1203 and were found in the Monastery of Veruela. The monks had a vital role in the development of the cultivation of the vine and in the way of making the wines. We know that the first vineyards in the area were planted in 1145.

In the NINETEENTH century established private wine cellars in the vicinity of Veruela, beginning to emerge in the 50’s, due to the economic difficulties, small groups of farmers joined forces to establish cooperatives, which currently form the largest part of the D. O.

Origin name Borja field

Formed in 1980 the D. O. “Campo de Borja” has a wine heritage very rich in garnachas, of its 7,500 ha, 5,000 ha are garnacha, which is highly appreciated enologically by the structural and chromatic complexity they provide to wines.

The characteristic microclimates and soils of the area enrich the nuances of the impressive wine heritage of the garnachas of our land and allows us to call Campo de Borja The Empire of Grenache.
